Blacks Golden Irish Rum
Blacks award-winning Golden Rum was next their second release out of the stills. This is an incredible robust golden rum characterised by the finest single malt Irish whiskey barrels which they were matured in. These are the very same barrels which first aged our 12 year old Blacks Irish Whiskey.
On the nose you are transported to a dessert lovers heaven with aromas of butterscotch sauce, banoffee pie and vanilla maple syrup, teamed with underlying layers of candied fruit. Our smooth, rich toffee rum is velvet soft on the palate, boasting flavours of antique mahogany, caramel coated nuts and a fruity light to medium body.
ABV: 40% VOL: 700ml
The Wild Atlantic Way is Ireland’s most scenic route. Kinsale marks the beginning, or the end of this incredible journey and it is here where Maud and Sam Black have established their brewery and distillery. Small batched distilled in Kinsale and inspired by the wild Atlantic coast that they call home. This is where the journey begins…
Sam and Maudeline Black are a husband and wife team who started their brewing company Blacks Brewery in 2013. This venture/obsession first began many years ago when Maudeline gave Sam a beer making kit for Valentines Day. What started as a hobby quickly developed into an obsession and thus through Sam’s passion and enthusiasm Blacks Brewery became reality. In 2015 they added the Distillery and are Ireland’s first co-located micro brewery and Distillery producing a range of boutique spirits.
In 2020, they invested further in the distillery and whiskey, with the purchase of two copper pot stills. Their shiny copper pot stills, Bonny and Morrigan, travelled over 2000km from Italy to take pride of place in Kinsale. They were crafted by experts Frilli Impianti, who have a long standing heritage of producing the finest stills.
Bonny, the larger of our two stills, has a capacity of 2800L and Morrigan a capacity of 1600L. Currently in the brewhouse we carry out a daily double shift brew to create a wash of 8% ABV for the distillation process. Once the wash has been created in our brewery It is then back over to the distillery for Bonny and Morrigan to do their job, which at the moment results in 21 bourbon sized barrels (225L) per week of whiskey being filled out of the distillery.
